We Have Arrived

We landed in FA* around 3:00pm on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 after a straight through drive from Frederick, MD. We have many stories to tell, but just haven’t had time. Well, we actually haven’t had internet access either, but that’s one of those other stories. When I get a few minutes, we’ll talk about:

Leaving Maryland and Macbeth

The Niceness Quotient

There’s a Problem with Your Water

and a few others. I’ll get back to ya….

*Okay, truth in blogging here. It’s not REALLY all that flat out here. There are a few hills, at least around where we are. Heck, there’s even a gorge. But, for all intents and purposes, it’s flat.

And So It Begins

The last week has been all about getting our house in Baltimore on the market. It’s an exhausting — and sometimes maddening — proposition; especially if you are still trying to tie up work-related loose ends, as I am. It’s even more frustrating if you work from a home office. And it’s compounded further by the fact that unlike L, my significant other, I’m working on a deadline.

This not having a deadline business seems the best way to move. We can keep the house in decent shape and just not have to worry about it until after someone signs a contract. Then, of course, the mad panic of packing sets in; but it’s helpful in the selling process to have it look like people actually do live here. It helps — at least if you’re paying attention to HGTV’s home-selling gurus Lisa LaPorta and Clive Pearce — to get what they call “top dollar.” I’m totally into getting “top dollar.”

We leave next week for our first trip to Flat America since I interviewed for this position. The Great American Heartland has not experienced the real estate boom that the East Coast has. It’s shocking to me how inexpensive homes are in comparision to Charm City — and Charm City’s prices even pale in comparision to those down the road in DC. It seems as though the people who price goods for the gub’mint also are pricing houses. Anyhow, there’s a lot of inventory out there, but my main goal is to find a temporary place. We can worry about permanent once our present home sells.

Speaking of which, we’re having an Open House while we’re in FA. Our terrific realtor has set up a site dedicated to our old manse. Visit it HERE.

I’m sure there’ll be stories to tell after we return. Stay tuned.

Welcome

Just a couple of gay East Coast urbanites transitioning to life in a small town in the Great American Midwest. Can we do it? Better yet, can we do it without joining the NRA? Stay tuned as we keep you informed of our impending culture shock!
